STOCKTON – The San Antonio Rampage earned a split in their two game series with the Stockton Heat (17-10-2-3) at Stockton Arena. The split now sees the silver and black sitting third in the Pacific Division standings. Here’s a weekend recap.
SAN ANTONIO RAMPAGE: 2, Stockton Heat 1 (SO)
On Friday night the Rampage opened up a two game series with their Pacific Division rivals, the Stockton Heat, and earned a massive win.
Spencer Martin came up big once again as he stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced in the win. He also had two huge stops in the shootout to help San Antonio secure the extra point over the Heat. Martin’s performance in net would earn him First Star of the Night honors.
Alex Belzile tallied his fifth goal of the season in the first period as he weaved his way through the Stockton defense to beat Heat goaltender Jon Gillies for the goal.
Stockton would tie the game late and force overtime and then a shootout. Rocco Grimaldi and David Warsofksy put the game away with two goals in the skills competition to secure the extra point for the Rampage.
SAN ANTONIO RAMPAGE 3, Stockton Heat 4
Saturday night’s contest saw a Pacific Division nail biter in the final moments, but a late goal from the Heat saw Stockton take all two points.
Samuel Blais scored twice in his first game since being sent down from the St. Louis Blues. Blais’ two goals were his seventh and eighth respectively on the season.
The Heat responded with two goals in the period as Darren Nowick and Spencer Foo gave Stockton the 2-1 lead heading into the second frame.
Despite the Rampage outshooting the Heat 18-3 in the third period, it was Stockton who scored a late goal to take the 4-3 win and both points from the silver and black.
