UTSA suffers heartbreaking OT loss to UT-Arlington at home

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA Roadrunners women’s basketball team rallied to force overtime but could not get over the hump as they suffered a narrow 69-68 loss to UT-Arlington in overtime at the Convocation Center on Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners used a 13-5 in the final quarter to force overtime, but were outscored 8-7 in the extra period in the loss. The Lady Mavericks (3-0) went on a 8-4 run to take a 69-63 lead, which they would not give up.

Senior Crystal Allen led UT-Arlington with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Senior guard Shelby Richards hit a free throw in the final seconds to officially clinch the win for the Lady Mavericks.

Despite a solid season debut for senior guard Crystal Chidomere, it was not enough to give the Roadrunners the win. Chidomere scored a game-high 26 points in her season debut as she sparked a 6-1 run for the home squad with 4:08 to play in regulation.

The game went back and forth in the final quarter as each team took turns holding the lead. Marie Benson’s 13 points were not just not enough for UTSA, who dropped their second straight.

A desperation three-pointer was off line as time expired, giving UT-Arlington the win.

Up next: The UTSA Roadrunners are now 1-2 on the season and will return to the court on Friday night when they take on the No. 2 Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
