UTSA defeats UTEP 26-16 to snap three game slide

EL PASO – The UTSA Roadrunners used their strong ground game to defeat the UTEP Miners 26-16 at the Sun Bowl on Saturday night.

UTSA running back Sincere McCormick rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries while quarterback Lowell Narcisse broke UTSA’s single-game rushing record. He would finish the game with 115 yards and a TD on 19 carries.

Most of the damage was done on the ground as the Roadrunners scored the first 10 points of the game. Narcisse had back-to-back 9-yard runs, with one leading to a touchdown. The two teams would trade field goals as UTSA took a 10-3 lead into the locker room.

The Roadrunners extended their lead when Narcisse scrambled and tiptoed near the sideline to somehow find Blaze Moorhead for the touchdown competition, putting UTSA up 16-3.

Treyvon Hughes’ touchdown run brought UTEP within six points but the Roadrunners answered back with a 43-yard field goal and McCormick’s 51-yard TD run.

The UTSA Roadrunners are now 2-3 (1-1, C-USA) on the season and will return to the field next Saturday when they welcome the UAB Dragons to the Alamodome at 6 p.m.
