On Wednesday morning, UTSA announced its early signing class for the upcoming 2020 season, which consists of eight players around the state of Texas.
From the eight players, four are from the Houston area, two are from the San Antonio area, and one each from Dallas and East Texas.
JayVeon Cardwell (CB) – Steele HS/Oklahoma St.
The Steele High School graduate comes to UTSA after transferring from Oklahoma State. While with Steele, he had 41 tackles, intercepted three passes and defended seven total. He earned the District 27-6A selection in 2016 after making 54 tackles, three tackles for loss, a team-best seven interceptions.
Dan Dishman (TE) – Clear Falls HS
The tight end from the Houston Area is one of the top receiving threats in the state. He earned All-District 24-6A honors as a senior in 2019 after posting 51 receptions for 983 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 19.3 yards per catch and 98.3 yards per game.
Jamal Ligon (DE) – Lee HS
The San Antonio native posted 73 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles as a senior in 2019. He also caught three passes for 44 yards and a touchdown.
Jaylon Lott (RB) – Hebron HS
A Dave Campbell Football Top 300 selection, the running back posted 2,027 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns during his career at Hebron High School. That includes 922 yards and six touchdowns on the ground as a junior.
Everett Ornstein (PK/P) – Langham Creek HS
One of the top special teams’ players will now be on the Roadrunners roster. He was a unanimous first-team All-District 14-6A and had 43 touchbacks on 61 career kickoffs and made 25 of 26 extra points.
Cam Peters (QB) – Stafford HS
The quarterback passed for 913 yards and eight touchdowns and ran for 303 yards and six scores as a senior in 2019. He also played basketball for Stafford High School Spartans.
Asyrus Simon (DE) – Atascocita HS
The standout defensive end was named the 2019 District 22-6A Defensive Player of the Year. In high school, the helped Atascocita to the District 22-6A title and the regional final round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs.
Donyai Taylor (ATH) – Shiner HS
He was named the District 15-2A Most Valuable Player and earned honorable mention all-state running back as a senior. He rushed for 1,694 yards and 31 touchdowns on 121 carries in 2019, while averaged 14 yards per rush and 128.8 yards per game.
National Signing Day is scheduled for February 5.
