USL San Antonio will hit the pitch for their inaugural season in the USL when they take on the Seattle Sounders FC 2 at 7 p.m. on April 2, it was announced on Tuesday.
The team will return home to take on the Swope Park Rangers on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field as the newest sports team in the Alamo City is introduced to soccer faithful.
“We can’t wait to kick off the season in Seattle and then host our home opener on April 9 as we bring professional soccer back to San Antonio,” said USL San Antonio Head Coach Darren Powell. “The start of the season is an opportunity to begin fulfilling the goals we set out for this organization. We know San Antonio has great, passionate supporters — that I have met myself — and we hope to see the fans pack Toyota Field for our home opener and throughout the season, as we look to build a fantastic home field advantage.”
The April 9 home opener will be one of 15 regular season home games at Toyota Field in 2016. Following that game, USL San Antonio will be on the road for three consecutive matches before returning home on April 30 to face Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
The 2016 schedule features 20 Saturday matches, five Wednesday matches, four Sunday matches and one Thursday match. The team will conclude their first season in the USL on September 24 on the road against Rio Grande Valley.
