UIW receives National Top 25 votes for first time in program history

Incarnate Word is getting national attention for its success this football season, breaking yet another barrier.

For the first time in program history, UIW has received National Top 25 votes. The Cardinals received seven votes in this week’s AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll and 14 votes in the STATS FCS Top 25 Media Poll.

UIW joins Central Arkansas, Sam Houston State, Nicholls, and McNeese as the only teams in the Southland Conference to earn votes in both polls.

The news comes after several records were broken in UIW’s 52-34 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. Freshman quarterback Jon Copeland passed for 411 yards, setting a new program record for passing yards.

The Cardinals posted 621 yards of total offense, the most in program history and over the last three games, UIW is averaging 42.3 points per game. UIW is 3-0 in conference play for the first time in program history since Eric Morris and his coaching staff took over.

Incarnate Word will return to the field on Saturday when they travel to face Lamar University at 3 pm CT.
