MEMPHIS – The Trinity Tigers clinched a share of the Southern Athletic Association Championship with a 52-7 victory over Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity’s win combined with Berry’s win on Saturday gives the Tigers a share of the conference championship with both teams owning 7-1  records in conference play.

The Tigers scored 17 points in the opening quarter as quarterback Wyatt Messex drove to a one-yard score as Trinity had two touchdowns in the opening quarter and tacked on a field goal.


Trinity added on to their lead as Messex found Justin Ventura for a six-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 69 yard, 14-play drive. Gabe Swift then scored from three yards out to make it 31-0 at halftime.

Messex connected with Tommy Lavine a 32-yard touchdown on Trinity’s first drive of the second half and the Tigers’ special teams blocked a punt for a score, putting the visitors up 45-0. Rhodes scored their lone touchdown on by going 88 yards in 13 plays.

Trinity closed out the scoring with Lavine’s second touchdown reception of the game.
