Tim Holt has been named managing director of the USL San Antonio soccer franchise, Spurs Sports and Entertainment announced on Friday.
Holt will oversee all aspects of the franchise, including business operations and will work with Head Coach Darren Powell on player personnel.
“I’m excited to be a part of one of the most respected organizations in all of professional sports and join the kick off for this unique opportunity to develop soccer in San Antonio,” said Tim Holt. “We will elevate professional soccer in San Antonio to the highest level and provide the community with the best possible fan experience. With our collaborative partnership with the City of San Antonio and Bexar County and the support of a passionate fan base, we have a great foundation in place for success.”
Holt comes to San Antonio from Orlando City, where he led the launch of two successful franchises Orlando Pride (NWSL) and Orlando City B (USL). He also served as vice president of development.
Holt was named Soccer America’s ‘Rising Stars’ in 2006 and one of “The 50 Most Powerful People in U.S. Soccer” by SI.com. He also is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and was a Men’s Pro representative on its Board of Directors until 2010.
On January 7, Spurs Sports and Entertainment was awarded the 31st franchise in the United Soccer League (USL).
A name, team colors and player news on USL San Antonio is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
