Seguin 61, Austin McCallum 14
If you had any doubts about Seguin heading into the 2018 season, the Matadors have emphatically erased those doubts. On Thursday night in District 12-5A-I action, Seguin qualified for the playoffs as it rolled to a 61-14 victory over 2017 5A Division II state semifinalist Austin McCallum to remain unbeaten within its district.
After finishing 2-8 last season and starting the 2018 campaign at 0-2, the Matadors have rattled off five straight victories while remaining unbeaten (3-0) in District 12-5A-I.
Senior Anthony Gonzalez threw for three first-half touchdown passes and Jordan Parker added a pair of scores including a punt return for six as the Matadors stormed out to a 34-0 halftime lead.
Cole Davis hit Deron Gage with a 12-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to get the Raiders on the scoreboard. Gage would later add a 75-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
SA Brackenridge 27, SA Lanier 11
Brackenridge capitalized on big plays en route to a 27-11 victory over Lanier in District 13-5A-I on Thursday night at Alamo Stadium.
Martin Levingston’s 67-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter erased an early 3-0 deficit to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead after one quarter.
Julian Cameron found Carlos Camargo on an 81-yard touchdown pass to give Brackenridge a 14-3 lead. Just before halftime, Lanier responded as Christian Cervantes scored from two yards out. Cervantes added the two-point conversation run to bring the Voks to within three points at intermission.
Levingston added a 49-yard run in the fourth quarter before Cameron and Camergo hooked up again on a touchdown pass to put the game away. Levington would lead the Eagles with 169 rushing yards.
SA Southwest 49, SA McCollum 0
Southwest posted its second shutout of the campaign with a 49-0 victory over McCollum in District 14-5A-I action.
The Dragons powered their way to 390 rushing yards in the victory. Johnathon Garcia led Southwest with 100 yards and two touchdowns, while five other Dragons rushed for scores to pace the offense.
McCollum was held to 39 total yards by a stingy Dragon defensive unit, including minus-6 rushing.
After claiming its first win of the season last week over new varsity program Southwest Legacy, McCollum fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in district play.
Boerne 38, Pleasanton 7
Boerne quarterback Cole Boyd threw for four touchdown passes on Thursday night in a 38-7 victory over Pleasanton.
Daniel Valadez opened the scoring for Pleasanton with an 18-yard touchdown run to give Pleasanton a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Boerne responded when quarterback Cole Boyd hit Paul Amick on an 18-yard touchdown pass. The point after failed, leaving Pleasanton with a 7-6 lead that would stand until just before halftime.
Colton Pool scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to give Boerne a 12-7. The two-point conversion attempt failed as Boerne took its five-point lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Greyhounds extended their lead to 19-7 on Boyd’s second touchdown pass of the night to Ben Welch from 19 yards out. With 2:07 remaining in the third quarter, Boyd and Amick hooked up on a 38-yard touchdown pass as Boerne began to pull away.
Texas baseball commit Douglas Hodo III hauled in two touchdown grabs on the night to pace the Greyhound offense.
Boerne moved to 6-1 and 2-0 in District 14-4A-I with the victory, while the Eagles dropped their third straight game overall and stand at 5-3 and 0-2 in district play.
