Sam Houston 32, Highlands 7
Senior Brandon Adams continued his torrid pace this season with another 163 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Sam Houston won its fourth straight with a 38-13 victory over Highlands.
After missing a few weeks, junior can’t miss talent Raymond Citizen caught two second-quarter touchdowns from Austen Ashworth as the Hurricanes took control.
Faizon Reece added 110 rushing yards for the Hurricanes, who moved to 4-3 and 4-1 on the season. Sam Houston piled up 486 total yards in the victory, including 394 yards on the ground on 44 carries. Adams is the leading rusher on the season with 828 yards and seven touchdowns.
Dre’Chan Moody visited the end zone twice in a losing effort for the Owls, who fell to 1-6 and 1-4 in District 13-5A-I.
Wagner 69, Jefferson 0
Tobias Weaver rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns and found Joshua Cobbs on another through the air as Wagner defeated Jefferson 69-0 on Friday night to remain in firm control of District 13-5A-I.
Sophomore running back L.J. Butler added another three touchdowns to his budding resume’, including an 85-yard rumble as Wagner stormed to a 48-0 halftime lead. Butler has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the season and now has 17 rushing touchdowns.
Over its six district victories, Wagner has outscored its competition 398-22 (an average of 66.3 points per game of offense), to include four shutouts.
Veterans Memorial 49, Burbank 14
Veterans Memorial is on track to clinch a playoff berth in its first season of varsity competition after it defeated Burbank 49-14 to claim its sixth straight victory.
Quarterback Joseph Richardson threw for two touchdowns and added another two on the ground as the Patriots rolled up 411 total yards.
A space to watch out of Burbank (4-3, 3-2) is the consistent play of sophomore running back Matthew Salazar, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown. Salazar is amongst the leading rushers in 13-5A with an average of 120 yards per game with eight touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Burbank is still trending upward and remains in playoff contention along with Brackenridge.
