Texas State weekend visit yields four more commitments for 2016 class

On a weekend in which the Texas State coaching staff hosted 15 recruits, they were able to get four more commitments for their 2016 class, giving them 22 total ahead of National Signing Day.

• Hal Vinson, South Oak Cliff outside linebacker – At 6’1”, 217-lbs, Vinson is a 3-star outside linebacker. He had offers from Louisville, Utah State, Colorado State, UTEP, Prairie View A&M and Central Arkansas, among several others. He was even committed to Central Arkansas before he committed to Texas State. He chose the Bobcats because it is closer to home and he has a close friendship with other Texas State commits, Markeveon Coleman, Aaron Brewer (both committed this weekend also) and Josiah Washington. All four are from the Dallas area.

“It felt like family. The coaches were real open and they would talk to us and be real with us. I got a few friends committed to Texas State too. I didn’t want to go somewhere where I didn’t know anybody else,” said Vinson.

• Nikolas Daniels, Clear Creek middle linebacker – At 5’11”, 235-lbs, Daniels is a 2-star middle linebacker. He had several other offers (between 8-11) but only three he was considering, University of Louisiana-Monroe, McNeese State and Texas State. The day before he committed he said he had visited all three schools but Texas State by far had the best looking campus.

“I knew it was going to be big but the size of it really impressed me. Nice facilities and a great coaching staff. They know what they are doing. They are going to be successful this year,” said Daniels the day before he committed.

• Markeveon Coleman, Dallas Skyline safety – At 6’1”, 195-lbs, Coleman is a 2-star safety. He had offers from Abilene Christian, Lamar and Central Arkansas.

“It felt like home. There is a lot of stuff to do around Texas State. The players seem like they are pretty cool people and they seem happy to be there. Coach Withers is real cool and he seems like he knows how to get the job done. I saw the Outlet mall and that’s pretty cool, I like to shop for clothes and shoes. And the river, it’s January 30th and I saw people swimming. That’s pretty nice,” said Coleman.

•Aaron Brewer, Dallas Skyline offensive lineman – At 6’3”, 280-lbs, Brewer is an unrated offensive lineman but he can play multiple positions across the offensive line. He was committed to Sam Houston State but he de-committed this morning before committing to Texas State.

The Bobcats now have 22 players locked in for their 2016 class, 18 committed and four already signed as midyear JUCO transfers. They have around three more spots left to fill. Positions of need now are runningback, nose tackle and tight end.
