Stars vs. Lynx: Looking into the crystal ball

With the San Antonio Stars tipping off their Western Conference Semifinals series against the Minnesota Lynx tonight, the staff of Stars Hoops got together to share their feelings and make their predictions for the series. Their predictions are listed below.

Aneela Syed – Minnesota has too many weapons for San Antonio and too much has to go right for the Stars to pull it out. Maya Moore won’t go down easy but I do think the Stars have some fight in them and will win the game in San Antonio for Becky Hammon. Lynx in 3.

Michael De Leon – The Lynx present the Stars with a tough task, but the Stars ended the season on a winning streak and the Lynx were on a skid until their last regular season game. While many think you have a blank slate to start the playoffs, momentum plays a key role. That along with the team’s efforts to extend Becky Hammon’s career just a bit longer make the Stars a darkhorse in my eyes to upset a tough Lynx team. If Danielle Adams, Jayne Appel and others can limit Maya Moore some, they have a good chance. If not, it could be a quick exit. Stars in 3.

Samantha Garcia – The Stars have had trouble in Minnesota as of late and will need to win there to win the series. The Spurs had trouble in OKC, but look how that turned out. I think if the Stars can attack the paint and play solid defense on the role players they will have a chance. San Antonio will need to shoot the ball well and it seems over the last three games against the Lynx, they did that. Limit your mistakes and they may upset. Stars in 3.

Rebecca George – The Stars will defeat the Minnesota Lynx and go all the way to the WNBA Finals to send Becky Hammon to the 2014 NBA Champions San Antonio Spurs as a 2014 WNBA Champion.

Stephen Anderson – San Antonio faces a tough challenge in trying to take down the defending champions, but it is not impossible. Dan Hughes mentioned if his team can limit their mistakes, his team can upset a top seed. Becky Hammon has also mentioned that she believes that the Stars are peaking at the right time. Both are true. Minnesota’s health also plays an issue, how healthy are Seimone Augustus and Rebekkah Brunson? Can they handle playing every other day? If the Stars can stop the Lynx role players, they may have a chance at an upset. Stars in 3.

Check back later today for Samantha Garcia’s preview of tonight’s Game 1.
