Stars vs Dream: Three Things To Watch

The San Antonio Stars will tip off the 2016 season against the Atlanta Dream. Here are three things to watch for in this first match up of the year.

  • How will the Stars score??

This is a brand new Stars team, so how will they play? Where will they get their offense from? Kayla McBride has always been a scorer, but she’s never been the main star before as she had help from Danielle Adams, Danielle Robinson, Sophia Young, etc. Now, she will be called upon heavily to score as of this moment, she is their only true go to scorer. Dearica Hamby will have to step up big and their going to need contributions from others to stay afloat otherwise this might be a tough game.

  • How will they defend Atlanta’s Angel McCoughtry?

Angel McCoughtry is a tough assignment for anyone in the league, but this is going to be a particular difficult assignment on the Stars because at this moment, no one from the Stars has stepped up to be the lockdown defender. Jayne Appel-Marinelli offers rim protection, but she needs help. Where and who exactly will provide the help? Who is going to make Angel’s life difficult? Otherwise, it will be an easy night for Angel where she could go off for 30+ points.

  • Which Stars player will surprise people?

The first game is always the toughest game because teams are often trying to find a rhythm and a solid rotation, so if any Stars player wants to make a name for herself, this is the game to do it. Who will be the surprise player for the Stars this year? Will it be Haley Peters or Frida Eldebrink? Astou Ndour? If the Stars can get production from unexpected places, they will be able to stay in games and make them competitive.

The Stars will tip things off with the Atlanta Dream this evening at 7 p.m.
