The San Antonio Stars have been in a bad funk for the past couple of weeks. Playing good team basketball for a few games only to come out unfocused and flat the next night. Despite all of that, they are in good position to clinch a playoff berth for the seventh time in eight seasons.
San Antonio (13-15) will visit KeyArena for a date with the Seattle Storm for the fourth and final time this season. The Stars have lost six of their last eight games, the most recent was a 89-79 loss to Connecticut on Friday evening. Rookie Kayla McBride led the team with 27 points.
The Stars last game against Seattle was a 88-67 home loss on July 11. McBride was the only player in double figures for San Antonio and that was the game that began their current funk that they cannot seem to break.
Seattle (9-20) has lost seven straight games since beating San Antonio. Their most recent defeat was a 76-67 loss to Indiana on Thursday, with Shekinna Stricklen putting up 20 points.
San Antonio’s magic number to clinch a playoff berth was reduced to two games after the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Tulsa Shock (10-19) on Saturday evening. The Stars lead Los Angeles by a half game for third place in the Western Conference.
The Stars and Storm are set to tip-off at 8 p.m. central time inside KeyArena. The game can be seen on WNBA LiveAccess and check back later for Stephen Anderson’s post-game report.
