The San Antonio Stars are looking towards the future and it is a future without Becky Hammon. They aren’t in rebuilding mode just yet, but today they made a move that will help them bring in key pieces for the future.
The Stars have traded guard Shenise Johnson to the Indiana Fever in exchange for a first and third-round pick in the 2015 WNBA Draft, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced on Thursday.
“We are excited to gain another first-round pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft,” said Hughes. “Having two first-round picks is a unique opportunity for us to improve our organization. Any time you acquire value, you have to give up value in return. We appreciate all that Shenise has done during her time with the Stars organization and we wish her the very best in her future.”
San Antonio will now have a total of four picks in this years draft. They will have the sixth, ninth, 30th and 33rd overall picks for the 2015 WNBA Draft on April 16.
Johnson averaged 7.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in her four-year career with San Antonio.
The Stars will open the 2015 season on June 5 against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury before hosting the Tulsa Shock for their home opener on June 14 at Freeman Coliseum.
