Highlights:

AT&T Center – With his team in the bottom of the Western Conference, San Antonio Stars coach Dan Hughes wants to see improvement from his team. Despite another loss, Friday night may have been just that.

Jayne Appel-Marinelli had a career-high 17 points, but it was not enough as the Stars fell 84-77 to the New York Liberty in front of 6,831 fans at the AT&T Center on Friday night.

Moriah Jefferson was the other lone Star in double figures with 16 points. Jefferson led San Antonio (5-19) on a 7-0 run in the third quarter, but it was not meant to be as the Silver and Black lost their sixth straight.

The Liberty were led by Sugar Rodgers’ 18 points, including eight in the third quarter. Tina Charles added 13 and Swin Cash chipped in 10 for New York (19-8), who sit atop the Eastern Conference.

Up next: The Stars are now 5-19 on the season and will return to the court on Sunday when they travel to Washington to face the Mystics at 6 p.m. inside the Verizon Center.
