The San Antonio Stars are going into their first season without Becky Hammon, but they are keeping a key player in Silver and Black for a few more years.

The Stars have re-signed guard Jia Perkins to a multi-year contract, San Antonio head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced on Tuesday morning.

“We are thrilled that Jia Perkins will continue her career in San Antonio,” said Hughes. “She has become a vital part of our team, our community and our culture. We appreciate and are thankful that she will continue to wear the Stars uniform and continue to grace our community with her play and her presence going forward.”

Perkins averaged 12.5 points per game and was the WNBA’s leading scorer in the 2014 season. The 32-year-old was a key part of the Stars 2014 season, eventually being named the runner up Sixth Woman of the Year.

The Stars will open the 2015 season on June 5 against the defending champion Phoenix Mercury before hosting the Tulsa Shock for their home opener on June 14 at Freeman Coliseum.
