San Antonio Stars center Jayne Appel is staying in the Alamo City. Appel has signed a multi-year contract with the team, head coach and general manager Dan Hughes announced on Tuesday afternoon.
In the 2013 season, the former Stanford Cardinal averaged 5.9 points and 26.5 minutes per game.
“We are excited Jayne will continue to be a key part of the Star’s family into the future,” said Hughes. “Jayne has become one of the premier rebounders and defenders in the WNBA through her consistent improvement. Her leadership within the team and in the community is valuable to us and the fans.”
Appel was selected by the Stars with the fifth pick in the first round of the 2010 WNBA Draft and has appeared in 121 games, averaging 4.0 points 5.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 17.8 minutes.
The Stars will open the 2014 season on May 16 in Atlanta before returning home for their home opener on May 17 against the Tulsa Shock at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
