The San Antonio Stars will have a great look at success this season with the addition of their first round pick, Kelsey Plum.
The guard out of Washington set the NCAA woman’s record for points with 3,527. The Stars should have an interesting backcourt with Plum alongside Moriah Jefferson and Kayla McBride.
After a season ending injury to Kayla McBride, the Stars ended last season in the last place in the standings. Though the season was tough, the Stars acquired the coveted first overall pick in the draft.
With the addition of Plum, the Stars will have a top pick and second overall pick, Moriah Jefferson, to build a team around. Not to mention, Kayla McBride who was the third overall pick in 2014, and Dearica Hamby who was selected 6th overall in 2015. A roster as talented as this Stars team has the potential to become a super team, as long as they stay healthy.
In addition to a new player beginning with the Stars this May, this will be the first season with Vickie Johnson as head coach for San Antonio. The 12 year WNBA veteran ended her playing career with the Stars before joining the coaching staff where she served as an assistant coach to Dan Hughes for five years.
With the addition of Kelsey Plum, and Johnson in the coaching seat, the Stars look like a new team. They’ll begin their new campaign May 13th at 2 p.m. against the Liberty in New York.
