The San Antonio Stars (13-18) have had a busy couple of days as they played 3 games in 4 days. This afternoon, they wrap up with a crucial meeting against the Los Angeles Sparks (14-16). The Stars have lost 4 straight games and look to get back on track.  The Sparks have also had their share of troubles but just have won 2 games in a row and look good for making the playoffs.

The Stars are 6-9 at home this season while the Sparks are 8-6 on the road and this is the fourth and final game between these two teams. The Stars currently lead 2-1 and can win the tie breaker with a win tonight and also hold the tie breaker with Tulsa 3-2.

Los Angeles also holds a 1 1/2 game lead over the Stars for third place in the Western Conference. Important to note, a Stars win and a Tulsa loss to Seattle would ensure both Sparks and Stars make the playoffs.

Here are some quick things to look for from the Stars

1- No slow starts – Last couple of games, the Stars have had some bad starts and have had to fight through to make it a game just to lose. They need to come out and play well from start to finish. They need to show they want to make the playoffs, not avoid them completely.

2. Contain LA’s posts – This is harder said than done but if the Stars are successful in shutting down Candace Parker/Nneka Ogwumike/Jantel Lavender, they shut down LA’s ability to score. If they do it this afternoon, their chance of winning increases.

3. Jia Perkins – When Jia Perkins plays well, it gives the Stars a lift and usually means they have a better shot at winning. The Stars are going to need Jia Perkins today.

The game will be on WNBA LiveAccess and it will be televised on TWC SN in the Los Angeles area. Tip off is set for 3:30 pm local time at the AT&T Center. Remember to check back for Stephen Anderson’s post game report.
