Scorpions eliminated from playoff contention with loss to Strikers

The San Antonio Scorpions and Fort Lauderdale Strikers played to a scoreless draw Wednesday night. The result officially eliminated the red and black from playoff contention.

San Antonio controlled the ball for most of the first half, but could not create any real scoring chances. Both Kris Tyrpak and Billy Forbes each had chances to give the Scorpions the lead, but were denied by the Strikers ‘keeper.

Scorpions goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes made key saves in the second half to secure a point for his team. Fort Lauderdale’s Stefano sent a 10-yard shot as Fernandes made two saves on the same shot while keeping the ball out of the net to keep the game scoreless.

The Scorpions are now 7-9-12 on the season and will return to the pitch on Saturday for their home finale of the 2015 season against the New York Cosmos at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field.
