It was deja vu for the San Antonio Scorpions, staring a 1-2 deficit in the face and just minutes away from a third straight loss. However, this time the red and black would get the game-tying goal and earned their first point of the 2015 season.
The Scorpions (0-1-2) got a late goal from Rafael Castillo and played to a 2-2 draw with Minnesota United (0-2-1) in front of 9,233 fans inside NSC Stadium on Saturday evening.
San Antonio got the scoring started early with a 60-yard blast from Zourab Tsiskaridze in the ninth minute that found its way past Minnesota goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock. Minnesota evened things up before halftime when former Scorpion forward Pablo Campos in the 34th minute, beating San Antonio keeper Daryl Sattler.
Minnesota took the lead late in the second half, Christian Ramirez scored off a penalty kick to give the Loons a 1-2 advantage in the 59th minute. Then in the 88th minute, San Antonio was awarded a penalty kick of their own and they took advantage.
Rafael Castillo sent the ball towards the left corner of the net, beating Ndjock to make it a 2-2 game. Despite four minutes of stoppage time being added, neither team would be able to convert another goal and we would end in a draw.
The Scorpions return to the pitch next Saturday when they travel to Florida to face the new expansion team Jacksonville Armada FC at 6:30 p.m.
