San Antonio Stars Week 2 Update

The San Antonio Stars continued their season last week as they visited the Tulsa Shock and hosted the Minnesota Lynx and the Chicago Sky on a back to back. The Stars lost all three games in which two were blowouts (Shock and Lynx) and one was competitive (Chicago Sky).

The Stars continued to struggle in the two losses and looked lackluster before rebounding against the Sky which reminded fans of their previous years in which many players were involved and Sophia Young-Malcolm was at her best. At the end it still didn’t matter as the Stars continued their worst start in franchise history with an 0-6 start. It’s way too early to think about tanking and the Stars aren’t the only franchise to start off winless as the Sparks are off to a 0-5 start as well although majority of their stars are not back yet. If the Stars want to win their first game, they are going to need efforts from everyone as they do not have a superstar on their team to lead them.

Stars forward Alex Montgomery was out with a knee injury before she came back this week; only to be injured again. Jayne Appel suffered a mouth injury after a collision with Minnesota Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson. The Stars signed former Washington Mystics forward Kalana Greene yesterday. Danielle Adams has also looked lackluster so far and the Stars can’t win games without reliable scoring efforts from her. It maybe due to her leg injury she suffered overseas, but the Stars won’t go far if she can’t score 10+ points per game.

It’s been a rough start for the Stars but they can turn it around. The question is, will they be able to?

The Stars will return to the court tomorrow night when they welcome DeWanna Bonner and the defending champion Phoenix Mercury to the Freeman Coliseum at 7 p.m.
