San Antonio FC kept their perfect record in tact with a 1-0 victory over Phoenix Rising FC in front of 7,414 fans at Toyota Field on Saturday evening.
The lone goal came in first half when Kris Tyrpak found AJ Ajeakwa, who buried the shot past Phoenix goalkeeper Josh Cohen in the 12th minute to put the home side up 1-0.
“I think we’ve scored some good goals this year along the way, and that will rank up there with them,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It was good passage of play, Kris delivered a good ball and AJ timed his run well and was able to get on the end of it.”
San Antonio goalkeeper Diego Restrepo recorded his fourth consecutive clean sheet of the season and made his fifth start in place of the injured Matt Cardone.
“We’re playing really well right now,” Ajeakwa said. “Teams are going to try to come in and play well defensively, and we just have to figure it out. It’s like a game of chess.”
The victory pushes San Antonio’s unbeaten streak to ten games, a new franchise record.
SAFC stays atop the Western Conference with 26 points and Real Monarchs is just two points behind them.
Up next: San Antonio FC is now 8-0-2 (26 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Friday when they take on the Swope Park Rangers at 7:30 p.m.
