San Antonio FC got off to a slow start in their inaugural season in the USL. However, it seems they are finding their footing at the right time. They came into Tulsa with two consecutive wins and left with another victory to their name.

SAFC scored twice in the second half as the defeated Tulsa Roughnecks FC 2-1 inside ONEOK Field for their third straight win.

Despite San Antonio dominating the ball for much of the first half, they could not find the back of the net. In the second half, SAFC struck when Michael Reed headed a Rafa Castillo free kick into the net in the 57th minute to take a one goal lead.

San Antonio nearly went up two goals in the 72nd minute, but Castillo’s shot went wide of the goal. SAFC got that chance back eight minutes later when  Franck Tayou chased down the ball, ripping it home to make it 2-0.

Tulsa got a goal back in stoppage time when Jasson Ramos Carpio scored off a deflection off SAFC’s Stephen McCarthy, but San Antonio held on for the 2-1 win.

“Tulsa made it very hard for us to break them down,” SAFC coach Darren Powell said. “Fortunately, we scored off a set piece early in the second half, and Franck (Tayou) showed a good bit of improvisation to score his goal. I thought it was a very professional and very thorough performance. We are glad to take three points on the road.”

The victory moved San Antonio up to ninth place in the Western Conference table, just one point out of the final playoff spot in the conference.

Up next: San Antonio FC is now 5-5-5 (20 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Saturday when they welcome the Oklahoma City Energy to Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m.
