San Antonio FC stays undefeated with hard fought win in Seattle

San Antonio FC stayed undefeated with a hard fought 3-2 over Seattle Sounders 2 as the club continued its three-game road trip on Tuesday night.

SAFC opened the scoring 13 minutes in when AJ Ajeakwa put home a rebound off a Ben Newnam attempt to put the visitors up by a goal. Billy Forbes put home his fifth of the season in the 24th minute to put San Antonio up 2-0, the lead would hold going into the second half.

Seattle came out strong to begin the second 45 minutes. Samuel Rogers cut the Sounders 2 deficit to one goal with a shot from point blank range. San Antonio FC got their two goal lead back with Devin Vega’s goal in the 69th minute.

The home side would get one more goal to make things interesting, but SAFC would hold on for the 3-2 win.

“Tonight was a very difficult game,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “Seattle asked a lot of us defensively, but our guys hung in there and fought hard. We rested a few guys, but earning three points in this league is extremely valuable.”

Vega’s goal in the 69th minute was the first of his pro career at just 18 years old.

“It was an amazing feeling,” he said. “First and foremost I’m glad we got the three points, but to get on the scoresheet is a great feeling.”

Player of the match:

Billy Forbes is RB90’s POTM. His fifth goal of the season sparked SAFC early and he continues to be a threat to every defense that San Antonio faces.

Up next: San Antonio FC is now 5-0-1 (16 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Saturday night when they wrap up their road trip in Portland against Timbers 2 at 9:30 p.m.
