San Antonio FC has signed veteran midfielder Sonny Guadarrama for the 2018 USL season, the club announced on Friday.
Guadarrama comes to the Alamo City after spending time with Dorados de Sinaloa on loan from Atlante from 2015-16. The 30-year-old Guadarrama brings over 10 years of experience in Mexican professional soccer, where he has scored 25 goals.
“Sonny has an excellent pedigree,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell through a team press release. “We remember him from his college days at Campbell University and we have always liked the way he plays the game. He became available this offseason and joined us on trial. He has impressed the staff and he is someone we are excited to see continue his career in his native south Texas with San Antonio FC.”
With Guadarrama’s signing, SAFC’s roster currently stands at 23 players.
Guadarrama joins Chris Christian, Ethan Bryant, Darnell King, Mikey Lopez, and Jose Escalante as newcomers to SAFC in 2018.
San Antonio FC will open their third season in the Alamo City on Saturday, March 17 in Sacramento before returning to Toyota Field to host Saint Louis FC on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. for the clubs home opener.
