San Antonio FC signs defender Darnell King

San Antonio FC has signed defender Darnell King for the 2018 USL season, the club announced on Tuesday.

King comes to the Alamo City after spending the 2017 season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. He appeared in 24 matches posting an assist, 66 interceptions and a team-leading 61 tackles.

“We are excited for Darnell to join San Antonio FC for 2018,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell through a team press release. “He is an experienced right-back that has played in many high-level games, and we are looking for him to continue his good run of form here in San Antonio.”

Before joining Tampa Bay, King spent time with the NASL’s Fort Lauderdale Strikers. He recorded two goals and four assists overall with the Strikers and helped lead the club to the 2014 NASL Championship game.

King joins Mikey Lopez and Jose Escalante as newcomers to the club for the 2018 season.

San Antonio FC will open their third season in the Alamo City on Saturday March 17 in Sacramento before returning to Toyota Field to host Saint Louis FC on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. for the clubs home opener.
