San Antonio FC has signed defender Ben Newmam for the upcoming 2017 USL season, the team announced on Friday.
“We are pleased to have Ben join us for the 2017 season,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He is an attacking right-back and will add his experiences from the USL to help strengthen our defensive unit.”
Newmam comes to San Antonio after spending the 2016 season with Louisville City FC. He played in 21 matches, scoring one goal and dishing three assists as Louisville finished second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
“I am very excited to be signing with San Antonio FC,” said Newnam via a press release. “I look forward to meeting my teammates and fans, as well as getting involved in the community. I think very highly of Darren Powell and look forward to working with him and his staff. I can’t wait to get started on our journey to bring the USL Cup home to San Antonio next season.”
The addition of Newmam could see Powell use a 4-4-3 formation, something he found success in last season. It also gives him the option of using a 4-4-2 – which could be experimental in the early portion of next season.
San Antonio FC will return to the pitch for its second season in the USL in 2017.
