San Antonio FC signs Danny Garcia

San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Danny Garcia to a contract for the upcoming 2016 season, the team announced on Thursday afternoon.

“Danny is a creative player that can play several different roles along the entire midfield area,” said San Antonio FC Head Coach Darren Powell. “I’m looking forward to Danny getting a good run of games with us. He has had some great experiences with FC Dallas previously and he will help us on both the attacking and defensive sides of the ball.”

Garcia comes to San Antonio from FC Dallas of Major League Soccer, where he has been since 2013. The 22-year-old was loaned to Arizona United of the USL, where he appeared in 15 matches.

He spent his college career at University of North Carolina and was named the ACC Freshman of the Year after he posted four goals and six assists in 23 matches.

“Joining SAFC in its inaugural season is something very special to me,” said Garcia. “As a team, we have the opportunity to make this into something greater than it already is. I’m excited to meet the fans, the staff and my new teammates. I can’t wait to get down there and start the season.”

San Antonio FC will open their first season in the Alamo City on the road April 3 against the Seattle Sounders 2 before returning home for their home opener on April 9 against the Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field.
