SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC (4-0-3) remains undefeated thanks to Jose Gallego’s goal in stoppage time as they earned a 1-1 draw with Austin Bold FC (2-0-3) at Toyota Field on Saturday night.

The victory keeps SAFC atop the Group D standings in the USL Championship and improves to 2-1-1 against the Bold.

“Austin is a very good team,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “They are well-coached and an organized team. They dropped numbers behind the ball to make it difficult for us, but our guys fought for 95-plus minutes. They stuck together, they demonstrated their grit and I’m proud of our guys as we remain undefeated.”

The visitors found the back of the net just before halftime when midfielder Xavier Baez put home a volley past SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone to put Austin up 1-0 in the 39th minute. San Antonio would go into the locker room down a goal at halftime, marking the first time they trailed after 45 minutes this season.

San Antonio came out firing in the second half and would find the back of the net in stoppage time. Gallegos blasted a shot from outside the box off the feed from forward Ignacio Bailone, getting it past Austin goalkeeper Diego Restrepo to level the match 1-1 and secure a point for the home side.

“We won at their house, so we knew they were going to come here hungry, and that’s what they showed today,” Gallegos said. “We showed great fight and we kept going until the last minute.”
