San Antonio FC has released Franck ‘The Tank’ Tayou after a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, the club announced on Thursday.
Tayou joined SAFC in June of 2016 and became a fan favorite. He was known as ‘The Tank’ to fans after his quick impact on games. The 26-year-old was re-signed by San Antonio early in the offseason, but he failed to show up for training camp and has spent time playing in the in-door soccer league.
“We appreciate Franck’s contributions to the club during the 2016 season, and wish him the best in his future professional soccer endeavors,” said SAFC Managing Director Tim Holt in team press release. “Ultimately, Franck’s decision not to participate in the first several weeks of SAFC preseason resulted in the club moving in a different direction to best prepare for the upcoming campaign.”
The release of Tayou brings San Antonio’s roster down to 22 players.
San Antonio FC is currently 1-1-1 in preseason play and will return to the pitch this weekend when they travel to Florida for a pair of games against Minnesota United (MLS) and Orlando City (USL).
SAFC will open its second season in the USL on March 26 against RGV FC Toros at H-E-B Park before returning home to host LA Galaxy II at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field.
