Toyota Field – There was good news and bad news for San Antonio FC on Saturday night. Bad news is they may be without a key player for several weeks. The good news is their playoff hopes are still alive.

San Antonio FC earned a point as they fought to a scoreless draw against the Oklahoma City Energy FC in front of 5,855 fans at Toyota Field. The draw pushes San Antonio’s unbeaten streak to five games and their point streak to four games.

The first half saw little action for both teams, with neither side getting many chances to score after 45 minutes.

In the second half, the action picked up in a big way. Taylor Morgan made his San Antonio debut, but several of his chances went wide. In the 69th minute, a scuffle in the San Antonio box resulted in two red cards and SAFC captain Josh Ford was ejected. Matt Cardone came in for the remainder of the match.

It began when OKC forward Danni Konig got tangled up with a San Antonio player in the box. Ford shoved Konig, while OKC defender Coady Andrews and captain Michael Thomas attempted to separate the two. A heated and upset Ford punched Thomas in the face and was ejected from the match. Thomas was also ejected.

The red card means Ford will be suspended a minimum of one game, but the league will review the incident.

“We’ll take that point,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It’s a game that could go either way. They had a game plan that was well constructed and well thought out, and made it difficult for us for most of the evening. But we’re unbeaten for five games now, so we’ll take that as a positive.”

Following the game, Ford tweeted out his apology to the fans and team for the incident.

Up next: San Antonio FC is now 5-5-6 (21 points) on the season and will return to the pitch next Saturday when they welcome the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m.
