SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC played to a pair of scoreless draws against El Paso Locomotive FC in a preseason friendly at Toyota Field on Saturday night as the club continues to prepare for the 2019 regular season.
SAFC had a number of scoring chances in the opening 75-minute match as Jack Barmby put a free-kick on goal, which was stopped by the El Paso goalkeeper. Lance Laing, Billy Forbes, and Cristian Parano all gave the home side chances to score but none would find the back of the net.
“We are pleased with the players tonight, they all worked hard,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “It was a lot of minutes of soccer and all of the players worked hard throughout. Now we go back to next week to keep improving.”
The second match saw both squads a little ragged as a header from Pascal Eboussi was the best scoring chance during the 45-minute game.
San Antonio looked better on both ends of the pitch despite neither side finding a goal. The offense was clicking and creating chances and defensively, SAFC swarmed the El Paso line and won the battle for the ball.
“It’s all positive,” Barmby said. “We have a lot we can take away from tonight and move forward to work on.”
