San Antonio FC opened the preseason with a 3-1 win over FC Dallas (MLS) on Saturday afternoon at Toyota Stadium.
The game was the first preseason match for SAFC after their closed-door match against the University of the Incarnate Word was canceled last week.
The visiting side opened the scoring when Billy Forbes headed in a free kick from Rafa Castillo in the first half to put SAFC up a goal. Dallas had a chance to knot the score up but a penalty shot from Pablo Aranguiz did not get on goal. San Antonio added to their lead before halftime off a set piece as Amer Didic scored to put SAFC up 2-0 at the break.
Dallas cut into the SAFC lead with a goal from Zdenek Ondrasek in the second half. The visitors finalized the scoring when a trialist took the pass from Ethan Bryant to put San Antonio up 3-1.
“It’s always good to play against quality opposition like FC Dallas who presents you with challenges,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said in a statement. “We saw that throughout today’s game, but our guys responded well. We managed to get two goals in the first half but were very patient in our approach overall.”
