SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio FC opened up their preseason schedule with a 3-1 victory over North Texas SC in a closed preseason friendly at Toyota Field on Saturday afternoon.
The match began with a back and fourth between the two clubs but Marcus Epps put the finishing touches on a corner kick to put SAFC up a 1-0 after the first of three 30 minute periods. San Antonio added a second goal from Ollie Wright to make it 2-0 after the middle frame of action.
North Texas got on the scoreboard in the final 30 minute period but a bomb from Leo Torres closed out the scoring to make it a 3-1 win for SAFC.
“I thought it was a good exercise for the guys as we continue to work on our team identity,” said SAFC Head Coach Alen Marcina. “I’m proud of the guys. We have a lot of work ahead, but we are excited about what’s coming. We are also incredibly proud of our academy players. This was the first opportunity for a lot of them against a professional team and they did very well.”
