Toyota Field – San Antonio FC and Arizona United both needed a win. After a Sunday afternoon match, things were left unchanged…for the most part. Unless you look at the table.
San Antonio FC and Arizona United SC played to a 1-1 draw at Toyota Field on Sunday afternoon.
SAFC was caught ball watching, which led to an Arizona goal. Long Tan put the ball in the back of the net just nine minutes into the match, beating Matt Cardone. San Antonio would answer back just before halftime when midfielder Carlos Alvarez scored to level the match 1-1.
Both teams had several chances in the second half, but each goaltender stood tall. SAFC’s best chance was in stoppage time when Shawn Chin’s rebound attempt when high over the net.
“All in all, to come out with a point puts us in a position back into the playoff spots,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “That’s something that we wanted to maintain, and we’re still controlling our own destiny at this point towards that goal.”
The result may leave SAFC with a sour taste in their mouths. A chance a three points, but came away with just one. However, it puts them in the final spot for the West playoffs.
Up next: San Antonio FC is now 9-9-8 (35 points) on the season and will return to the pitch next Saturday when they welcome Saint Louis FC to Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m.
