HIGHLIGHTS:
EDINBURG – San Antonio FC saw their road woes continue on Saturday night as they fell 1-3 to the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (4-4-4) at H-E-B Park.
The loss kicks off a series of five of their next matches on the road and closes a tough month of May for SAFC, who went winless.
“Nobody was pleased with the result tonight, so it’s a matter of having a short memory, putting it behind us, and getting ready to face Austin Bold FC in the Open Cup on Wednesday,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said.
Jesus Enriquez opened the scoring in the 30th minute for the home side as he took a pass from Robert Coronado to put RGV up a goal. The Toros added to their lead six minutes later as Michael Salazar scored to put the home side up two goals.
The second half saw more of the same for RGV as Enriquez scored his second of the night in the 58th minute. Ever Guzman cut into the lead in the 71st minute with a shot to the top of the net, putting home his fourth goal of the 2019 campaign.
“The mood in the camp is a little low, but we have another match on Wednesday, so there’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves,” SAFC midfielder Jack Barmby said. “We have to start winning games, no matter the competition, and the bottom line is we just have to pick it up.”
