Toyota Field – San Antonio FC had been playing their best soccer in the past month. Despite having their unbeaten streak end on Saturday, they still have high confidence going into a three-game road trip.

San Antonio FC fell 2-3 to the LA Galaxy II in front of 7,690 fans at Toyota Field, making it the third highest attended game of the season.

SAFC got things started early when Rafa Castillo banged home a free kick into the top-right corner of the net in the third minute, making it a one-goal lead for the home squad. LA leveled the game just three minutes later when Jose Villarreal beat San Antonio goalkeeper Matt Cardone in the sixth minute.

LA took the lead for good in the 20th minute with a tap in goal off the foot of Jack McBean and Jaime Villarreal capped off the scoring for the visitors with a tally in the 35th minute.

San Antonio would try to answer in the second half, but left several chances short. SAFC made it a one-goal game when Stephen McCarthy placed the ball inside the near post. However, it was not enough as SAFC fell 2-3.

“It was a strange game,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “It became very open, very quickly, which is something we really didn’t want. They have quality forwards, quality attacking play, and bottom line is there’s things within our defensive line that we should have done better.”

The loss dropped San Antonio from seventh place to ninth, just one point behind the eighth place Swope Park Rangers.

“We’re super motivated right now,” McCarthy said. “We need to make playoffs and every game is a must-win. It’s terrible that we didn’t come away with something here, so every game is huge.”

Up next: San Antonio FC is now 6-6-6 (24 points) on the season and will return to action next Saturday when they face the Swope Park Rangers at 7:30 p.m.
