Goon Squad competed in the 15 and under division at the Texas Showdown National Championship 7on7 14th and 15th in Round Rock.

Highlights:

San Antonio FC continued their dominate play with a 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy II in front of a sold out crowd at Toyota Field on Saturday night. The win was their second straight clean sheet of the season and fifth overall in 2017, including preseason play.

SAFC opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute from Rafa Castillo as he took the feed from Billy Forbes, burying it past LA goalkeeper Jon Kempin. San Antonio FC captain Michael Reed put his club up by two when he put home a rebound goal that went off an LA defender and into the net in the 29th minute. Reed’s goal was his first of the season and put San Antonio up 2-0 after 45 minutes of play.

The Galaxy started the second half by applying pressure towards the SAFC goal, but goalkeeper Matt Cardone and the re-tooled backline were up for the challenge. San Antonio’s defense did not allow LA to get set up, clearing the ball at every chance.

Forbes capped off the scoring for SAFC in the 77th minute when he ran down the ball to beat Kempin, giving San Antonio the 3-0 win.

“I’m very proud of our guys for the way they worked from the first whistle,” SAFC head coach Darren Powell said. “There was a lot of positive energy that the players showed. We got off to a good start and I thought today we scored three very good goals.”

The win was the second straight clean sheet for SAFC on the young season and Powell said the team can still be better.

“I saw some things today we need to work on,” he said. “However, It’s a team effort. We talk about how we want to play defensively and how we want to attack during the course of the week and we plan for those moments. All in all it’s a collective team effort.”

Player of the match:

Billy Forbes is RB90’s Player of the match. His second goal of the year capped off a successful home opener for SAFC and proves to be a huge spark for the team.

“Throughout the week I’ve wanted to score,” he said. “To get out there and score gets a lot of emotion out of me. I’m back and it feels good to be back.”

Up next: San Antonio FC is now 2-0-0 (6 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on Friday night when they welcome Colorado Switchbacks FC to Toyota Field at 8 p.m.
