San Antonio City Council approves Toyota Field sale

The San Antonio city Council has approved a plan to purchase Toyota Field, it was revealed on Thursday.

The city and county will lease the soccer stadium to Spurs Sports and Entertainment, who will put a United Soccer League team to play in 2016.

Both the city and county have put $9 million together and the Spurs an additional $3 million to buy the stadium, totaling $21 million. All of money is going towards Morgan’s Wonderland as San Antonio hopes to lure a Major League Soccer expansion team.

The future of the San Antonio Scorpions is still unclear. Owner Gordon Hartman says he is not allowed to discuss any details of the process at the moment. It is possible Hartman could move the team to another market or could fold.

Announcements from both the Spurs and Hartman are expected in the coming days.
