San Antonio FC has signed defender Amer Didic for the 2019 USL Championship season, the club announced on Tuesday.
Didic comes to San Antonio after spending the past three seasons with the Swope Park Rangers and Sporting Kansas City (MLS). In his three seasons with Swope Park, Didic tallied 6,809 minutes and led the Rangers defense to two USL Championship matches.
“We are pleased for Amer to join the squad for 2019,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell in a statement. “He has consistently played for Swope Park Rangers in the league the last three seasons and has been one of the best center-backs in USL, while also appearing in two USL Cup Finals. He is a strong center-back that is still developing, and he will help us on the back line.”
Didic led Swope Park in clearances, aerial duels, and aerial duels while adding a goal and two assists in 2018. The signing is a massive one for SAFC, who are looking to improve to their defense after a less than subpar showing in 2017.
“I’m very thankful and excited to be a part of this organization,” said Didic in a press release. “I’ve heard many great things about this club and seen first-hand in my experiences on the other side of the field. I can’t wait to get started and prepare for the upcoming season as we set our sights on silverware.”
San Antonio FC will open the 2019 USL Championship season on March 9 at Toyota Field against Phoenix Rising FC.
