SAFC officially announces the signing of Charlie Ward

San Antonio FC has signed midfielder Charlie Ward for the rest of the 2018 USL season, the club announced on Friday morning.

“We are pleased to add Charlie to our squad,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell in a statement. “He is a capable midfielder that passes the ball well. We look forward to working with him.”

Ward comes to SAFC after spending three seasons with the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros. He started all 30 matches for RGV and added three assists in 2016 and was with the club before signing with the Houston Dynamo of MLS.

The addition of Ward brings the SAFC roster to 26 players and reunites him with former RGV teammates Jose Escalante and Kyle Murphy.

“This opportunity means a lot,” said Ward. “I’m happy to be here and I’m excited. The staff has been great to me and I’m excited to get going and help this team get into the playoffs, and we’re hoping to win.”

San Antonio FC is currently 4-3-5 (17 points) on the season and will return to the pitch on June 16 when they welcome Sacramento Republic FC (7-3-3, 24 points) to Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m. CT.
