Highlights:
Toyota Field – San Antonio FC closed out preseason play with a 3-0 win over the University of the Incarnate Word and a 3-2 victory over Trinity University in closed preseason friendlies at Toyota Field on Friday.
In the first game, SAFC took on the Cardinals from UIW. Despite solid chances from both squads, we went into halftime scoreless after 45 minutes. San Antonio FC got on the scoreboard in the second half with a penalty kick goal from Danny Garcia in the 55th minute. SAFC extended their lead just over seven minutes later when Araujo put home a pretty shot to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. San Antonio FC would add one more goal to seal their 3-0 win.
The second match saw the home squad face Trinity University. Michael Reed got the scoring started in the 35th minute with a header off a beautiful set up by Bobby Moseley to put SAFC up by a goal. Manolo Sanchez extended the lead to two goals for San Antonio by cleaning up the corner kick just before halftime.
San Antonio added another goal early in the second half to make it 3-0. Despite two late goals from Trinity, SAFC would hold on for the 3-2 victory to close the preseason with a perfect record.
“The players will be disappointed we gave up two late goals,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “Over the course of preseason, our defensive discipline has been very good. Towards the end of the game, things got a little sloppy. Not sure if it was fatigue or not doing the right thing at the right time. We’ll check the video later.”
San Antonio FC will open their first season in the Alamo City on the road April 3 against the Seattle Sounders 2 before returning home for their home opener on April 9 against the Swope Park Rangers at Toyota Field.
