San Antonio FC has confirmed their July 25 match against the RGV FC Toros will be played without fans in attendance amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The club released a statement late Friday afternoon and confirmed they spoke with state and local officials before coming to a decision.

After considerable internal discussion and dialogue with local officials, state officials, and public health experts, San Antonio FC has made the decision that the club’s upcoming home match on Saturday, July 25 will occur without fans in attendance,” the club said in a press release. “Our primary focus in hosting games during this pandemic continues to be the safety and welfare of all constituents, including participants, fans, and game-day staff. SAFC will continue to monitor the local health situation and will provide an update in advance of the club’s second home match on Saturday, Aug. 15.”

The news comes after El Paso, Austin, and Rio Grande Valley all announced they would play home matches without fans for the month of July.

San Antonio has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks, including shattering two records in total case numbers and two straight days of high in deaths.
