Bill Laimbeer will be the next coach and general manager of the San Antonio Stars following their relocation to Las Vegas, it is being reported.
Doug Feinburg of the Associated Press reported that Laimbeer will be named the coach and general manager, with an announcement from the team expected following the sale.
The news means Vickie Johnson is out as Head Coach after just one season in San Antonio. Johnson went 0-14 in her first 14 games as coach and finished with an overall record of 8-26.
Ruth Riley is out as general manager after one season as well.
Laimbeer has been the Head Coach of the New York Liberty for the past five seasons, leading them to the playoffs for three of those five seasons. Prior to that, he coached the then-Detroit Shock, leading them to three WNBA championships.
Overall, Laimbeer has a coaching record of 400-229 in the WNBA over the past 13 years.
The Stars announced on Thursday that the team was in discussions with a buyer to purchase and move the team to Las Vegas.
