AT&T Center – The San Antonio Rampage have been a thorn in the sides of the Grand Rapids Griffins. That trend continued on Tuesday as the Silver and Black swept the season series from the Detroit Red Wings affiliate.
The Rampage earned a 2-1 victory over the Griffins in front of 3,549 fans at the AT&T Center on Tuesday night, taking all four contests from Grand Rapids this season.
San Antonio lit the lamp midway through the opening period after Alex Belzile picked up the puck off a Duncan Siemen’s shot and buried it past Thomas McCollum. Grand Rapids answered back late in the period when Martin Frk beat Spencer Martin to knot the score at 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
The Rampage took the lead for good in the middle frame when Trevor Cheek weaved through the Grand Rapids defense and beat McCollum to give the Silver and Black the 2-1 advantage.
Despite chances from both teams, Cheek’s goal would stand as the game-winner as the Rampage swept season season series from Grand Rapids.
San Antonio outshot Grand Rapids 32-31 for the game, including 10-8 in the opening frame. The Rampage finished 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Griffins were 0-for-4.
The Rampage are 26-33-8-0 (60 points, 0.448%) on the season and will return to the ice on Saturday night when they welcome the Bakersfield Condors to the AT&T Center at 7 p.m.
