MILWAUKEE – San Antonio Rampage forward Brendan Ranford’s goal in the fifth round of the shootout led the Silver and Black to a 5-4 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena on Wednesday night.
The Admirals scored the lone goal of the first period when Petter Granberg beat Rampage goaltender Spencer Martin with a wrist shot at 15:10 of the opening frame.
San Antonio struck back to even the game early in the second period. Nicolas Meloche sent a slap shot towards the net, which went off Milwaukee goaltender Anders Lindback and into the net. Reid Petryk gave the Rampage their first lead of the game when he converted on a backdoor goal at 4:44.
Shawn St. Amant scored San Antonio’s third goal of the period when he fired home the puck into the net from the slot, putting the Rampage up 3-1. Just over a minute later, Milwaukee cut the Silver and Black lead to one when San Antonio turned the puck over and Frederick Gaudreau beat Martin.
Gaudreau scored his second of the night in the third period just 35 seconds in, tying the game up at 3-3. Antony Richard gave the Admirals the lead just over two minutes later when he converted a backdoor attempt at 2:09. San Antonio forced overtime when Petryk’s wrist shot beat Lindback for his second of the game.
Neither team found the back of the net in the overtime period and we went to a shootout. Martin stopped all five Milwaukee shooters and Ranford sealed the extra point with his goal in the fifth round.

The Rampage are now 25-20-6-0 on the season and will return to the ice on Saturday when they travel to take on the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m.
