Highlights:
The San Antonio Rampage knew their final home game for a month was more than just a game. It was a chance to send their biggest crowd of the season home happy. And that is just what they did.
Two consecutive goals would lift the Rampage to a 3-2 come from behind win over the Texas Stars at the AT&T Center on Friday in front of a season best 14,481 fans.
The Rampage would get on the scoreboard at 11:57 of the opening frame when Rocco Grimaldi put home his 19th goal of the season, beating Justin Peters to make it 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Texas responded in the middle frame when Denis Gurianov converted on a one-timer past Jeremy Smith at 3:58 of the season period. The Stars took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes with Jason Dickinson’s seventh goal of the season.
San Antonio took the lead for good with two goals in 1:20. Jim O’Brien tied the game early in the final frame off a nice feed from Reid Petryk and Julian Nantel scored the game-winner just over a minute later, sealing the 3-2 victory.
“We knew the importance of the game,” Grimaldi said. For us, its more than just a hockey game. It’s not about us playing and having fun, it’s about all those dealing with cancer and tonight we did it for them.”
Up next: The Rampage are now 21-21-4-0 on the season and will kick off their Rodeo Road Trip tomorrow night when they face the Texas Stars at 7 p.m. inside the H-E-B Center.
