Highlights:
The San Antonio Rampage wanted to return home and start a ten game homestand off right. However, missed chances cost them in their first home game of 2017.
J.T. Compher scored the lone goal as the Rampage fell 4-1 to the Iowa Wild in front of 7,106 fans at the AT&T Center on Friday night.
Iowa would open the scoring late in the opening period when Christoph Bertschy got loose and put home a shot past Rampage netminder Jeremy Smith to give the Wild the 1-0 lead just over two minutes to go in the first period.
The visitors took a three goal lead in the middle frame with goals from Sam Anas and Jeff Hogan at 5:36 and 12:36 respectively. Compher got the Silver and Black on the board just before the period ended, cutting the deficit to 3-1 after 40 minutes.
Iowa added one more goal in the final frame from Zach Mitchell to cap off the scoring and win 4-1.
“I thought we had a very good game,” Rampage coach Eric Veilleux said. “We spent a lot of time in their zone, we blocked quite a few shots. If we play the way we did tonight, I like our chances tomorrow.”
San Antonio finished 0-for-2 on the power play, while Iowa went 1-for-4 on the man advantage. Smith stopped 17 of 21 shots he faced in the loss.
Up next: The Rampage are now 16-19-2-0 (35 points) on the season and will return to the ice on Saturday night to close out their weekend series with Iowa at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
